The ureter drains urine from the patient’s kidney to the bladder. Interventional radiologists often place stents in the ureter to allow the urine to flow past an obstructing calculus or tumor. Some ureteral stents are completely internal with no part protruding from the patient’s body. This type of stent often has a pigtail on each end to keep it in place.
